The "Chiefs Award" is awarded annually by the Chief of the Department to the person he considers to have made the most outstanding contribution to the Department during the course of the preceding year. Instituted in 1989 by Chief Don Duso, Chiefs Award recipients are honored at our annual banquet with a plaque. A perpetual plaque is also maintained at the fire house listing all previous recipients of the award.
"This Years Chiefs Award" was awarded to Casey Taylor at the Annual Banquet on May 20, 2006 by 1st. Asst. Chief Andy McGill. Casey joined the department in 1998. Casey has been consistently in the "Top 5" each year for rescue and fire calls resonse since his rookie year. He is climbing the officer ladder in the department and is an EMT-B. He currently holds the office of Fire Captain and is charge of department training.

Fireman Of The Year
The Northern New York Volunteer Firemen's Association recognizes a"Fireman of the Year" Fireman of the Year candidates are nominated from the ranks of hundreds of volunteer firefighters from throughout northern NY. The recipient of this award is normally cited for bravery or a life saving action in the line of duty. The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department is very proud of its members who have been nominated, and selected as Fireman of the Year. Runner up candidates in this competion are cited for meritorious service.
