Read below to see where our smokey are put to work:
This year (2000) the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. made major purchases of necessary equipment.
- Vehicle extrication gloves for the membership were generously donated by
Local Moose Club at a cost of $700.00.
- Four (4) new air packs at a cost of approximately
$9,500.00.
- Three thousand (3,000) feet of three inch hose at a cost of
$3,500.00.
- A new Acu-Vue underwater infra red camera, which will aid in diving
operations at a cost of $1,000.00
The money to pay for
this cost will come from fund raising and your generous smokey.
The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department receives tax dollars from
a contract with the Village of Saranac Lake. The Village of Saranac Lake
contracts with the surrounding townships for the collection of taxes for
the purpose of fire and rescue protection.
The Village of Saranac Lake uses these collections for the following:
- Salary and Benefits for 5 Paid Drivers.
- Station Maintenance.
- Vehicle Maintenance.
- Ownership of 1/2 of the vehicles in use by the Saranac Lake
Volunteer Fire Department.
- A modest cash payment is then made to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department to conduct its business.
Tax dollars received
by the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department from the Village of
Saranac Lake only cover a small portion of the Departments expenses. The
Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department expenses include the
following:
- Purchase of all firefighting equipment.
- Purchase of all Rescue and Medical equipment.
- Ownership of 1/2 of the vehicles in use by the Saranac Lake
Volunteer Fire Department.
- All training expenses.
Your generous smokey make
it possible for the department to serve the public in the most efficient
means possible.
TAX DOLLARS ALONE ARE INSUFFICIENT TO PROVIDE OUR COMMUNITY WITH THE SAFETY AND PIECE OF MIND WE
DESERVE!!!
